Ariel Evans - Rutgers Cybersecurity Faculty Chair
CEO, Cyber Innovative Technologies
Ariel is the CEO at her company, Cyber Innovative Technologies, providing end-to-end cyber risk management and decision support application for insurance companies and organizations world-wide allowing companies to plan, analyze, monitor and remediate cyber risk using a digital asset approach. Formerly the Chief Information Security Officer for a major Telco in the U.S., she was responsible for the establishment of a Global Information Security division, from the very initial stage of defining new organizational structure to be aligned with new business structure, to the assimilation of IT security across the firm. She was accountable for global IT security policies and procedures, governance and standardization of all global IT activities and risk management. Her insight into regulation, governance and business connectivity technology allows her to provide expert guidance to the Department of Homeland Security, The Payment Card Industry and other governing bodies that are accountable for reducing risk and ensuring secure financial, medical and personal data.
Ariel is the primary author of the PCI Security Council e-Commerce Guidelines. Her latest publication is due to hit shelves in Spring 2019, Managing Cyber Risk.
James G. Mottola - Rutgers Cybersecurity Faculty Co-Chair
VP of Data Privacy, Investigations and Security, Porzio Compliance Services
Jim is the Vice President of Data Privacy, Investigations and Security for Porzio Compliance Services. He has more than 25 years of experience in the U.S. Secret Service including serving as the former Special Agent in charge of the Newark Field Office of the U.S. Secret Service. He leverages his experience to counsel and advise clients on matters of information security, data privacy, physical security, schools safety, internal corporate investigations, incident response management, and other compliance related matters.
Jim works with emerging businesses, educational institutions and organizations to provide a strategic perspective, in a wide range of security matters. He advises clients in the areas of risk identification and mitigation to help them prepare, respond and recover from cyber related events to reduce the likelihood and impact of financial fraud and increase organizational resilience.
Jim developed his unique skill set during his years as a Special Agent in the New York, Phoenix and Frankfurt, Germany office and culminating in his role as the Special Agent in Charge of the Newark Field Office in New Jersey. He holds a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) certification from ASIS, a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) certification offered by ISACA, and a Masters of Management, specialization in Organizational Change
Managing Partner, Mazars USA
Atif is a business savvy cybersecurity technical expert with 20 years of experience in management consulting, technical and sales operations, product management, and business development. He is a renown cybersecurity expert and innovator, earning a patent in security analytics on embedded consumer devices monitoring user activity anomalies.
As Managing Partner for Mazars USA, Atif is responsible for the cybersecurity consulting practice. He has worked with organizations including Herjavec Group, Unisys, IBM Global, Comcast, and Xfinity Home - where he ran the technical support security business unit and oversaw the sales and service delivery operations. With Xfinity, he also directed all security work streams to launch next generation X1 Platform, including invention and deployment of his patented fraud detection technology operational on millions of subscriber devices.
Global Head of Cyber Advisory, Development, Strategy and Partnership, Cybint Solutions
As a retired FBI Behavioral Profiler, Bryan offers unique talents to the cybersecurity and intelligence ecosystem. During his tenure with the Bureau, he was involved in effectively developing and delivering hundreds of psychological profiles to apprehend some of the most prolific violent and cyber criminals of the last 20 years. Bryan took his expertise in behavioral analysis and cyber counter intelligence and successfully translated it to a civilian career in cybersecurity and business management. Under his leadership, capital was raised for two privately held companies leading to IPO on valuations of over $1 Billion.
At Cybint, Bryan has married his expertise in human behavior with his astute ability to analyze businesses and cybersecurity. His ability to forecast the needs of the cyber security industry, from workforce demands to potential threats, makes him a leader and resource in the field.
Partner, Cleary Gottlieb
Daniel is a Partner at Cleary Gottlieb where his practice focuses on intellectual property law, as well as cybersecurity and privacy. He has significant experience in representing leading multinational corporations and private equity firms in IP, technology, and privacy issues arising in transactional contexts, particularly transactions involving acquisition of or investment in IP, data, and various technologies.
Vice President & Privacy Officer, CIPP-US/CIPM
Catherine Tomasi is Vice President and Privacy Officer for the private bank of a large financial institution. Catherine is responsible for the first line operational risk organization’s privacy & information security offices.
Prior to her current role, Catherine was Senior Vice President in a large financial institution second line compliance function serving in a variety of privacy-related roles for over 11 years including Privacy Officer covering brokerage, private banking, and institutional/investment banking businesses, as well as regional coverage of Latin America and Canada; and responsible for oversight of the enterprise-wide incident management and breach response processes and teams, including redesign of the centralized incident management and opt-out processing solutions.
Senior Manager of Cybersecurity Services, Treliant
Richard is a Senior Manager with Treliant. He has over 25 years of experience in information security, compliance, risk management, business continuity and information technology. He has worked on staff and as a consultant for companies in the financial services, insurance, healthcare, information technology, and asset management sectors. Prior to joining Treliant, Richard has held senior leadership roles, most recently as Vice President of Cybersecurity and Data Protection at Cordium, where he advised clients on compliance in areas including cybersecurity, IT management, risk management, and business continuity.
Previously, Richard was the CISO of Mizuho Bank for 17 years, where he was responsible for developing and managing the cybersecurity program. During his tenure, he helped to secure the bank’s infrastructure and led many efforts to ensure the security and safety of the bank’s operations for its Americas offices. He helped Mizuho Bank undergo 15 information security/cybersecurity regulatory examinations, all culminating in satisfactory results whereby no MRAs or MRIAs were issued.
Associate Managing Director, Kroll
Jordan has served in a number of national security roles during his government service; Director on the White House National Security Council, Deputy Justice Attaché and Senior Legal Advisor to the U.S. Justice Department in Kabul, Afghanistan, Federal Prosecutor, Justice Department’s Senior National Security and Crisis Lawyer and Planner, and Trial Attorney. As Deputy Justice Attaché and Senior Legal Advisor he was responsible for the counter-corruption portfolio and supported criminal justice, anti-money laundering and national security capacity-building efforts by working with prosecutors, judges, and law enforcement professionals across the country. For his service, he was awarded the Justice Department Expeditionary Award (with distinction). He also served as Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Philadelphia, prosecuting a variety of cases and first or second-chairing multiple jury trials.
Prior to departing for Afghanistan, Jordan served as Director for Incident Management for the White House National Security Council where he managed a variety of sensitive national security policy matters. He was the first Director of Preparedness and Response for the DOJ’s National Security Division, providing regular counsel to the DOJ’s senior leadership while focusing on matters pertaining to national security law and emergency response. During this time, he coordinated or assisted in the coordination of the DOJ response for several high-profile matters, including the 2011 Japan earthquake and nuclear disaster, the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Hurricane Irene, and the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Before joining the National Security Division, Jordan was a trial attorney investigating complex fraud and False Claims Act cases for the Civil Division of the Justice Department, which he joined through the Attorney General’s Honors Program following a federal clerkship in Philadelphia. He has won numerous awards and honors, and currently teaches National Security Law at the university level.
Information Risk Manager, AmTrust Financial Services, Inc.
Rafael is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) with over 25 years of experience working in IT. He began his career working with mainframes at Merrill Lynch, then worked for several accounting firms leading their technology initiatives, and providing IT consulting and auditing services to clients in various industries including the arts, education, publishing, and manufacturing.
Before AmTrust, Rafael worked at AIG as IT Audit Manager managing application and system audits for corporate, payroll, insurance, finance, and the global network infrastructure. During his tenure at AIG, he became an adjunct at the Baruch Zicklin School of Business where he developed and taught a course in Auditing Accounting Information Systems. He also served as a Facilitator of information security, technology and general business management courses at the University of Phoenix. His role at AIG transitioned to Manager of Information Security Risk and Compliance, partnering with global and domestic information security teams and global ERM, developing the Global Risk Control Self-Assessment Program, and establishing the Quality Assurance Review Process.
Chief Information Security Officer, Delta Dental of NJ & CT
Roota is a dynamic senior IT executive responsible for successful implementation of the systems and strategies for information security, risk and compliance, across multiple industries with global operations. Currently, she is the CISO at Delta Dental of NJ and CT, leading the development and implementation of enterprise-wide information security strategies, policies, risk assessments, and controls.
Prior to Delta Dental, Roota was the CISO at Covanta Holdings Corp., a leader in Energy-from-Waste. As a CISO she led all aspects of Information security and risk, including global information security awareness programs, policies, business continuity and incident response teams.
Roota has over 15 years of direct experience in establishing and maintaining global security strategies, architectures, standards, and compliance while driving the necessary cultural changes to affect measurable improvements in the organizations’ security posture. She's a recognized thought leader in the industry and serves as a Co-Chair for Evanta’s NJ CxO Summits and Advisory Board Member for HMG’s CIO and CSO Summits. She is also a Governing Body Member for various other technology conferences and a frequent speaker at various conferences such as MIT’s CIO Symposium, HMG’s CIO Summit of America. Her in-depth experience and expertise in the field of Information Security and Risk Management can be measured by the various articles, eBooks, interviews and podcasts she has to her credit.
Vice President, Citi Bank
Chris Baker is a Vice President with Citi Bank and is the North America lead of Citi's Global Cyber Threat Exercise Team. Prior to joining Citi, he was a career Naval Officer and last served as a War Game Director and Military Professor at the United States Naval War College where he lead teams in conducting war games that helped shape US and Coalition strategy and doctrine.
In his role at Citi Chris travels globally to conduct Strategic Planning and Cyber Crisis Management exercises that serve to prepare Citi’s Franchise leaders for response to significant cyber security incidents. Chris and the Global Cyber Threat Exercise Team routinely mentor Citi’s Country CEO’s, Board Members, and Regional and Global leaders on matters of cyber security incident response and coordination. Chris is also responsible for training the staff of Citi's three regional Cyber Security Fusion Center in order to prepare them for responding to cyber incidents.
Director of Business Development - the Americas, CrowdStrike
As the Director of Business Development at CrowdStrike, Adam focuses on the insurance and legal verticals in the Americas. His extensive cyber insurance and cyber risk management experience provides CrowdStrike’s partners and their clients with invaluable expertise. He’s responsible for developing and managing relationships within these verticals as he provides stewardship, guidance and support in incident response engagements, as well as proactive programs to manage cyber risks.
Before CrowdStrike, Adam was the Managing Director of Cyber Liability Practice for Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. He was responsible for the overall direction of the Cyber Liability Practice including development of state-of-the-art product solutions, cyber risk management, incident response and preventative services, insurance gap analysis, risk exposure analysis, risk modeling, benchmarking, and best practices implementation. He also managed a diverse book of professional liability accounts for Gallagher consisting of Directors & Officers Liability, Employment Practices, Fiduciary Liability, Professional Errors & Omissions, Cyber Risk, and Media Liability.
Adam began his 22-year career in 1998 at Reliance National in the Casualty Risk Management division underwriting commercial, property and casualty insurance. He moved to AIG 2000 as an underwriter of executive liability products. In 2005, he joined AmWINS as the Assistant Vice President within the Financial Risk Group where he focused on professional and executive liability insurance for public, private, nonprofit, and association entities.
